Perth Airport remains a cornerstone of Western Australia’s economic and social development. Under Master Plan 2026, the airport is set for a multi-billion-dollar investment to deliver modern aviation infrastructure that will meet increasing passenger and freight demand. This initiative is projected to expand employment opportunities from over 27,000 to more than 75,000 by 2046, reinforcing Perth Airport’s position as a key driver of the state’s growth and prosperity. Strengthening the Western Gateway
As Australia’s fourth-largest airport by passenger volume, Perth Airport contributes approximately $6.6 billion to Western Australia’s Gross State Product annually. It plays a vital role in connecting communities, supporting the resource sector, and sustaining thousands of jobs. With its growing significance, many believe the airport’s expansion should reflect not only economic advancement but also the spiritual and cultural heritage that defines the state.
A Proposal Rooted in Heritage
In recognition of Australia’s Christian heritage, the land of the Southern Cross and Our Lady, community members have proposed the inclusion of a chapel and a resident chaplain within the airport’s redevelopment. This addition would provide a space for reflection, prayer, and comfort to travellers and staff of all faiths, aligning with international standards where major airports include interfaith facilities to support passenger wellbeing.
Public Consultation Now Open
Perth Airport is currently seeking public feedback on its Master Plan 2026 Preliminary Draft. The consultation period provides an opportunity for individuals and organisations to contribute their views on proposed developments, including the chapel initiative.
