Karwar: Karwar witnessed a grand celebration of youth, faith, and legacy as the Karnataka Regional Youth Commission (KRYC) inaugurated its 13th Regional Youth Convention, Yuvajanotsava 2025, alongside the Ruby Jubilee marking 40 years of KRYC’s service. The four-day event, hosted at the St. Joseph’s School and College Campus in Kajubag, Karwar, brought together over 1,150 young participants from 13 dioceses across Karnataka, representing various Catholic youth movements such as AICUF, Jesus Youth, YU4C, Abide, and Bosco Youth.
The festivities commenced with the inauguration of colorful stalls set up by dioceses and youth organizations, reflecting their unique cultural identities and vibrant traditions. A spirited procession of youth carrying the Regional Cross, accompanied by the lively tunes of the St. Michael’s School Band, created an energetic and welcoming atmosphere, setting the stage for the grand celebrations.
The Inaugural Mass was a central highlight of the event, celebrated by Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, with the homily delivered by Dr. Henry Dsouza, Chairman of the KRCBC Youth Commission and Bishop of Bellary. Forty-five priests and two deacons from across Karnataka concelebrated the Mass, while the regional youth team led the liturgy and the Diocese of Shimoga’s choir rendered soul-stirring hymns.
Following the Mass, the formal opening ceremony of Yuvajanotsava 2025 was compered by Mr. Jaison Pereira from the Diocese of Mangalore. The program began with a graceful welcome dance by students of St. Joseph’s School, Karwar, followed by the release of the convention’s official theme song. The celebration continued with lively performances by regional and diocesan youth, infusing energy and creativity into the proceedings.
Key dignitaries, including Bishops Henry Dsouza and Duming Dias, clergy members, and youth leaders, jointly inaugurated the convention and the Ruby Jubilee by lighting the ceremonial lamp and unveiling the official logo. In his presidential address, Bishop Henry Dsouza emphasized the convention’s theme, “Youth Walk Together with Hope,” calling upon young people to be beacons of faith, unity, and optimism in today’s world. Bishop Duming Dias, in his keynote address, described youth as “a precious gift in the eyes of God”, inspiring them to channel their talents for the betterment of the Church and society.
The ceremony also paid tribute to the tireless contributions of past and present youth directors, animators, and leaders who have nurtured KRYC over the past four decades. Special recognition was awarded to Mr. Roystan Dias, President of ICYM Karwar Diocese, for composing the convention’s theme song, and to Mr. Rovin Pereira for designing its official logo.
Ms. Vileena Gonsalves, KRYC Coordinator and ICYM Karnataka President, delivered the vote of thanks, extending gratitude to all participating dioceses and collaborators. A short video presentation showcased KRYC’s 40-year journey, followed by a series of cultural performances that celebrated Karnataka’s diversity and the vibrancy of its youth.
The inauguration of Yuvajanotsava 2025 and the Ruby Jubilee of KRYC not only highlighted the spirit of Karnataka’s young Catholics but also reinforced four decades of unwavering dedication to fostering leadership, unity, and faith among youth. The event promises a four-day celebration filled with inspiration, cultural exchange, and spiritual growth, creating memories that will resonate for years to come.
