Kerala CM Calls High-Level Meeting on Munambam Land Waqf Dispute; Sources Says

Thiruvananthapuram: In the aftermath of the High Court Division Bench’s ruling on the contentious Waqf claim over Munambam land, Kerala Chief Minister has convened a high-level meeting to chart the next steps for resolution. The meeting, scheduled to be held in Thiruvananthapuram tomorrow, will focus on reviewing and implementing recommendations submitted by the Justice C.N. Ramachandran Nair Commission, which was appointed to devise a permanent solution to the longstanding dispute.

The High Court had clarified that the state government retains full authority to act on the commission’s recommendations, empowering authorities to implement measures aimed at resolving the issue effectively. Minister P. Rajeev, in a statement, emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the matter in a transparent and timely manner.

Yesterday, representatives of the Munambam Land Conservation Committee, led by Fr. Antony Xavier Tharayil, met with Minister Rajeev to convey their views and concerns. The office bearers, who had also engaged with the local MLA’s office, reportedly expressed complete satisfaction with the steps undertaken by the government so far. Their engagement reflects ongoing dialogue between the state authorities and community stakeholders, ensuring that public and religious interests are balanced in the decision-making process.

The upcoming meeting in Thiruvananthapuram is expected to outline concrete actions, including the potential implementation of specific recommendations from the commission report. Officials indicate that the focus will be on legal, administrative, and developmental measures that respect Waqf rights while addressing public and environmental concerns related to the Munambam area.

This move by the state government underscores Kerala’s effort to resolve complex land disputes involving religious endowments through a structured, consultative, and legally informed approach. Stakeholders hope that the meeting will provide clarity on the government’s course of action and reinforce confidence in a fair and sustainable resolution of the Munambam land issue.
