Pope Leo XIV Prays for Peace and Stability Across the World

Vatican City: Following the Mass for the Jubilee of Marian Spirituality in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Leo XIV offered heartfelt prayers for people affected by conflict, political instability, and other crises in the Holy Land, Ukraine, and Peru, while also remembering victims of workplace accidents in Italy.

Peace in the Holy Land

Turning first to the Holy Land, Pope Leo XIV expressed deep sorrow for the human cost of the ongoing conflict. “Two years of conflict have left death and destruction everywhere,” he said. The Pope highlighted the suffering of families who have lost loved ones, saying that the pain extends beyond physical destruction to the very hearts of those affected. He assured the faithful that the Church stands with them, reminding them of God’s unchanging love with the words, “Dilexi te – I have loved you.”

Pope Leo also welcomed the recent agreement between Israel and Hamas as a step toward reconciliation. He urged all parties to continue courageously along the path toward “a just, lasting peace” that respects the legitimate aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians. Emphasizing the need for empathy and understanding, the Holy Father encouraged humanity to see the other “not as an enemy, but as a brother,” capable of forgiveness and reconciliation.

Solidarity with Ukraine

The Pope then addressed the ongoing turmoil in Ukraine, expressing concern for civilians caught in new waves of violence. He lamented the destruction of cities and essential infrastructure, which has deprived countless families of electricity, heating, and other basic necessities. “My heart is united with the suffering of the population,” Pope Leo said, reiterating his call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and for dialogue to prevail.

Prayers for Peru’s Political Stability

Pope Leo XIV also extended his thoughts to Peru, a nation navigating political turbulence. With tensions rising over leadership changes and calls for reform, the Holy Father prayed for national reconciliation and unity. “I pray that Peru may continue on the path of reconciliation, dialogue, and national unity,” he said, urging Peruvians to seek stability and democratic governance through peaceful and constructive means.

Remembering Workers in Italy

Finally, as Italy observed its National Day commemorating victims of workplace accidents, Pope Leo remembered those who lost their lives and called for prayers for the protection of all workers. His message underscored the Church’s concern for human dignity and the safety of laborers across the globe.

Through these prayers, Pope Leo XIV reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to solidarity, compassion, and peace, encouraging the faithful worldwide to remain steadfast in hope, prayer, and action for justice and reconciliation.
