Pope Leo XIV Calls on All Parishes to Join World Mission Sunday

In a heartfelt video message, Pope Leo XIV has urged every Catholic parish around the globe to actively participate in World Mission Sunday, which this year falls on 19 October. The theme for 2025 is “Missionaries of Hope among the peoples.”

Highlighting the significance of the day, Pope reminded the faithful that World Mission Sunday is a time when the entire Church comes together in prayer, especially for missionaries and the success of their apostolic work.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Pope Leo shared, “When I served as a missionary priest and Bishop in Peru, I witnessed firsthand how the faith, prayers, and generosity shown on World Mission Sunday could transform entire communities.”

He encouraged parishes to contribute not only through prayers but also by supporting the mission’s practical needs. “Your participation helps spread the Gospel, supports pastoral and catechetical programs, contributes to the building of new churches, and addresses the health and educational needs of our brothers and sisters in mission territories,” Pope said.

Pope Leo concluded by inviting all Catholics to embrace their baptismal call to be “missionaries of hope among the peoples.” He expressed gratitude to parishes worldwide for their ongoing support of missionaries and imparted his Apostolic Blessing to the faithful.

World Mission Sunday serves as a powerful reminder of the Church’s global mission, calling every Catholic to share faith, hope, and love with communities around the world.
