Kochi: Sr. Rose Paite, MSMHC, a dedicated nun from Manipur, has been awarded the prestigious Mrs. Janamma Thomas Muthoot National Award by the Catholic Mental Health Ministry (CMHM) at the World Mental Health Day Conference in Kerala. The accolade, presented by Archbishop Thomas Tharyil, recognises Sr. Rose’s extraordinary contributions to mental health promotion and grassroots community wellness, particularly her 25-year commitment to empowering women, children, and marginalised communities in India’s North East.
The award ceremony was attended by distinguished church leaders and mental health experts from across India, including Bishop Lumen Monteiro, Chairman of the CBCI Office for Healthcare, and Bishop Alex Vadakumthala, Secretary General of the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council. Named after Mrs. Janamma Thomas Muthoot, celebrated for her compassionate service across Karnataka and Kerala, the award honours individuals who embody Christian love and selfless service qualities exemplified by Sr. Rose.

A member of the Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians (MSMHC) from Singngat, Manipur, Sr. Rose has devoted over two decades to initiatives that protect vulnerable populations. Her pioneering work includes preventing human trafficking, promoting safe migration, advocating for domestic workers’ rights, and integrating mental health awareness into community programs. These efforts have profoundly impacted countless lives, earning her recognition as a compassionate leader and visionary social worker.
Sr. Rose’s achievement is particularly significant for India’s North East, a region where access to mental health resources and social support remains limited. Her work not only strengthens local communities but also serves as an inspiration for social workers, ministers, and the broader Church, reinforcing the mission to uphold human dignity and holistic wellbeing across the country.
Through this recognition, Sr. Rose Paite stands as a beacon of hope and service, demonstrating the transformative power of faith-driven initiatives in promoting mental health, empowerment, and social justice throughout India.
