Accra: Severe storms have recently battered northern Ghana, causing widespread destruction and leaving hundreds of residents homeless. In Busia District, over 100 people were displaced as powerful winds and heavy rainfall destroyed homes and damaged local infrastructure. Families are now struggling to find shelter and basic necessities.
Nearby, Bongo District also suffered significant damage when a rainstorm affected more than 500 homes and eight schools, displacing over 3,000 people. The storm destroyed roofs, knocked down electricity poles, and disrupted educational and healthcare services. Two people were reported injured during the storm.
Local authorities are assessing the damage and coordinating relief efforts to support affected communities. Officials have called for urgent assistance to rebuild homes, restore essential services, and provide aid to those affected.
These events underscore the vulnerability of northern Ghana to extreme weather, highlighting the need for stronger disaster preparedness and response strategies to protect residents from future storms.
