Ernakulam:  Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the age of 80. Reports indicate that Odinga suffered a cardiac arrest during his morning walk in Koothattukulam and was immediately taken to Devamatha Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:52 AM.

Odinga had traveled to Kerala six days earlier for Ayurvedic treatment at Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Eye Hospital and Research Centre. He was accompanied by family members during his stay as he underwent ongoing medical care. Discussions about repatriating his remains to Kenya are currently underway, with both Kenyan and Indian authorities coordinating the arrangements.

A towering figure in Kenyan politics, Odinga served as Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013 and was a five-time presidential candidate. He remained a central opposition leader throughout his career.
