BCCI Sends Strong Signal on Rohit Sharma Ahead of Australia ODI Series: “Still a Match-Winner”

Mumbai: As India gears up for a three-match ODI series against Australia starting October 19, all eyes are on the return of Rohit Sharma to the national side. This will mark the first international outing for the former captain since leading India to Champions Trophy glory in March 2025. Ahead of the series, cricket experts and former players have voiced support for the veteran batter, emphasizing that he still has the fire to be a decisive match-winner.

Former India batter Pravin Amre, speaking to RevSportz, highlighted the importance of giving Rohit the freedom to express his natural game. “He is the most senior player in this team, and I think he should play like that. Team management should give him room to grow, allow him to enjoy his batting. The more he enjoys it, the greater the chance he becomes a match-winner,” Amre said.

With the burden of captaincy lifted, Rohit can now focus purely on his role as a top-order batter. Over the past couple of years, his more aggressive approach has yielded rich dividends for India, and Amre is confident that the “match-winner Rohit” is still very much capable of delivering big performances.

Amre also praised Rohit’s physical fitness and preparation. “I was there when he was training at BKC [Bandra Kurla Complex]. I told him that a fit body will have a fit mind. He has worked hard over the last six months, shedding around 10 kilos, and it shows his dedication to staying at peak performance.”

Age may be a factor as the next ODI World Cup approaches Rohit will be 40 by then but Amre urged a measured approach. “Let’s take one series at a time and let him enjoy his cricket. He does not have to prove anything. He has seen everything in the last 10 years, so I don’t think he is worried about that,” he said, emphasizing that mental clarity and enjoyment of the game are key to Rohit’s continued success.

As India prepares to face a formidable Australian side, the return of Rohit Sharma is being viewed not just as a boost to the batting lineup but also as a message from the BCCI: experience, skill, and match-winning ability remain invaluable, regardless of age or recent absence from the field.
