Beijing: Apple’s latest iPhone 17 series has made a strong market entry, surpassing its predecessor, the iPhone 16, by 14% in early sales across China and the United States, according to research firm Counterpoint. The report highlights that during the first ten days of availability, the newer models achieved notable traction among consumers, signaling robust demand for Apple’s flagship devices.
The base model of the iPhone 17 recorded remarkable growth, nearly doubling sales in China compared to the iPhone 16 in the same period. Across both major markets, sales of the base model increased by 31%, indicating that Apple’s new offerings have resonated well with buyers seeking value and performance.
Analysts attribute the surge to a combination of upgraded features in the iPhone 17, including a more powerful processor, enhanced display quality, higher base storage, and an improved selfie camera, all provided at the same starting price as last year’s iPhone 16. Mengmeng Zhang, Senior Analyst at Counterpoint, emphasized that the iPhone 17 base model offers compelling value, making it highly appealing to consumers in a competitive smartphone market.
Launched globally in September 2025, the iPhone 17 series has thus set a strong precedent for Apple as it heads into the crucial holiday sales season, reinforcing the brand’s position in key markets like China and the United States.
