Bareilly Diocese Celebrates Jubilee Youth Convention, Inspires Young Faithful to “Be a Witness”

Bareilly: The St. Alphonsus Cathedral in Bareilly reverberated with energy, devotion, and spiritual enthusiasm as the Diocesan Youth Convention Jubilee 2025 was celebrated from October 21 to 23. Under the theme “Be a Witness,” the three-day gathering brought together 352 young participants from parishes across the diocese, providing a platform to deepen their faith, strengthen Christian values, and cultivate leadership rooted in service.

The convention opened with an inspiring inaugural ceremony, graced by Dr. Tanu Jain, CEO of the Bareilly Cantonment Board, as the Chief Guest, and Fr. Royal Anthony, Education Secretary of the Diocese, as the Guest of Honour. The event also saw the active participation of priests, religious sisters, and youth animators, all of whom supported the young attendees in their spiritual journey. The opening session set the tone for a weekend of reflection, learning, and vibrant engagement.

Over the three days, participants engaged in motivational and interactive sessions led by prominent speakers including Ms. Shilpa Ekka, Mr. Percival Holt, and Mr. Goodwill John. These sessions encouraged the youth to translate their faith into meaningful action, embrace leadership with purpose, and understand the significance of living as active witnesses of Christ in their communities. Practical exercises, group reflections, and sharing sessions created an environment of learning, self-discovery, and spiritual growth.

Evenings at the convention were marked by cultural performances, praise and worship sessions, and fellowship activities, reflecting the energy, creativity, and devotion of the young faithful. Music, dance, and dramatizations served not only as entertainment but also as expressions of faith, joy, and community spirit, making the convention a holistic experience of learning and worship.

A defining moment of the gathering was the Holy Mass celebrated by Bishop Ignatius D’Souza, Bishop of Bareilly and Chairman of ICYM. In his homily, Bishop D’Souza reminded the youth of their calling to “walk in the light and be true witnesses of faith”, stressing their essential role in fostering a compassionate, justice-oriented, and faith-filled society. He encouraged them to live boldly, serve generously, and embrace their mission as young ambassadors of Christ in a rapidly changing world.

The convention concluded with a heartfelt valedictory session, during which organisers, resource persons, animators, and volunteers were acknowledged for their tireless efforts. Expressions of gratitude and appreciation resonated throughout, as participants reflected on the lessons learned, friendships formed, and spiritual renewal experienced over the three days.

The Diocesan Youth Convention Jubilee 2025 emerged as a spiritually enriching and transformative gathering, rekindling faith, unity, and a sense of purpose among the youth of Bareilly Diocese. With renewed energy and commitment, the participants departed empowered to live courageously as true witnesses of Christ, carrying forward the message of love, service, and compassion into their families, parishes, and communities.
