Mumbai:  India’s star batter Jemimah Rodrigues said her faith in God carried her through as she led India to a historic win over Australia in the Women’s World Cup semi final. Speaking after her match winning 127 not out, the young cricketer said she had experienced one of the most challenging periods of her life and that only her trust in God gave her strength to keep going.
“I want to thank Jesus. I could not have done this on my own,” Jemimah said after receiving the Player of the Match award. “Everything that happened so far was a setup for this. Last year I was dropped from the World Cup even though I was in good form. I cried almost every day on this tour and struggled with anxiety. But I knew I had to show up, and God took care of everything.”
She shared that she had been repeating a verse from the Bible throughout her innings, saying, “I kept telling myself to stand still and that God will fight for me. I just stood there and He fought for me.”
Jemimah explained that she had not even known she would bat at number three until moments before the game. “I was taking a shower when they told me. I just said, let me know when it is time. Five minutes before going in, I was told I would bat at three. It was not about my fifty or my hundred today. It was about making India win.”
Her words reflected a deep humility as she credited her teammates and the crowd for their support. “When I could not carry on, my teammates encouraged me. Deepti spoke to me every ball, and the crowd’s chants lifted me up. I cannot take credit for anything because God fought for me,” she said.
The match marked a powerful comeback for Jemimah, who has openly spoken about her struggles with mental health and confidence after being dropped from the team. Her calm faith under pressure and her willingness to speak about her journey have touched fans across the world.
As she looked toward the sky in gratitude after the victory, Jemimah’s words echoed far beyond the cricket field. Her story of faith, perseverance and divine strength has become a source of inspiration for many, reminding people that even in moments of struggle, hope and belief can lead to triumph.
