Case filed against driver Anwar Najeeb for attacking bishop’s vehicle

Ernakulam: A case has been registered against a lorry driver named Anwar Najeeb, aged 25, for attacking the vehicle carrying Bishop Mar Joseph Kollamparambil, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Syro Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Shamshabad. The incident took place on Tuesday night near the Vellurkunnam signal at Moovattupuzha.

According to police reports, Bishop Kollamparambil was travelling from the airport towards Pala when the lorry, driven by Najeeb, followed and rammed into the bishop’s car. The attack is said to have occurred after a minor collision between the two vehicles earlier at Perumbavoor. The lorry then chased the bishop’s car for several kilometres before stopping at the Vellurkunnam signal, where it struck the vehicle again, damaging its front lights and body parts.

Police said that no one was injured in the incident, though the car suffered significant damage. The Moovattupuzha police have registered a case and begun an investigation. They have confirmed that the driver, who hails from Vannappuram in Kanjikuzhi Vellappilly, will be arrested soon.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. Police are examining whether it was an act of road rage or had any other provocation. Church officials have not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
