Bangalore: The Archdiocese of Bangalore recently organized a workshop at Paalana Bhavana to strengthen the skills of catechists involved in preparing children for the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation. The event brought together around 155 catechists from various parishes across the archdiocese, creating a space for learning, sharing, and renewal.
The workshop was inaugurated by Bishop Susai Nathan, who reminded participants of their vital mission in shaping the faith of young believers. He encouraged catechists to continue their service with dedication and creativity, helping children experience the sacraments as encounters with God rather than formal rituals.
Fr. Gilbert Choondal, a Salesian priest known for his expertise in catechetical formation, led the main sessions. His interactive approach focused on experiential learning, encouraging catechists to use new teaching methods that engage both children and parents. Participants took part in group activities and discussions aimed at improving how faith is communicated in classrooms and parish communities.
The program concluded with a session led by Fr. Arun Kumar, where catechists shared their experiences and challenges from parish life. Their feedback will contribute to the development of a diocesan catechetical policy to make sacramental preparation more effective and consistent across the archdiocese.
The workshop reflected the Church’s growing commitment to equipping lay leaders for their ministry. By empowering catechists with better tools and understanding, the Archdiocese of Bangalore hopes to ensure that every child preparing for the sacraments encounters faith as a living and joyful experience.
