Dharmendra Discharged from Hospital; Family Opts for Home Treatment Amid Recovery; Sources Says

Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra, one of India’s most beloved screen icons, was discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital early Wednesday morning after a brief period of hospitalisation. The 89-year-old actor, affectionately known as Bollywood’s “He-Man,” will now continue his treatment under medical supervision at home, doctors confirmed.

According to Dr. Pratit Samdani, a senior consultant at Breach Candy Hospital, Dharmendra was discharged around 7:30 a.m. “He will be treated at home as the family has decided to shift him to home care,” the doctor said. The decision reportedly came after doctors observed steady improvement in his health condition.

Family sources revealed that Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, Dharmendra’s sons, along with daughter Esha Deol, have arranged for round-the-clock medical support at their residence. The family opted for a home-based recovery plan to ensure the veteran actor’s comfort and privacy while he continues recuperating.

Dharmendra was admitted to Breach Candy earlier this week following complaints of breathlessness and general fatigue, prompting concerns among fans and well-wishers. While the exact details of his illness were not disclosed, doctors described his condition as “stable but requiring observation.” His hospitalisation sparked a wave of misleading rumours on social media, including false reports about his demise, which were later debunked by his family.

Esha Deol, in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), urged fans not to believe unverified news. “Papa is fine and recovering well. Please avoid spreading or believing rumours,” she wrote. Veteran actress and Dharmendra’s wife Hema Malini also expressed frustration over the circulation of baseless stories, calling such behaviour “unforgivable” and urging media outlets to exercise responsibility and respect the family’s privacy.

Doctors have confirmed that Dharmendra will continue with a strict home-care routine, including physiotherapy, a regulated diet, and periodic medical evaluations. The medical team from Breach Candy Hospital will make regular visits to monitor his health progress.

Dharmendra, who has enjoyed a prolific career spanning over six decades, continues to remain active in cinema. He was last seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (2024) and made a memorable appearance in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023). His next release, Ikkis, a war drama directed by Sriram Raghavan, is currently in post-production.

Fans across India and abroad have flooded social media with wishes for the actor’s swift recovery, celebrating his resilience and legacy. With the shift to home care, Dharmendra’s family has requested privacy while assuring the public that he is “doing well and recovering steadily.”

The actor’s discharge marks a positive step in his recovery journey, as India’s film fraternity continues to rally around one of its most enduring legends.
