Kochi: The Indian Christian Movement (ICM) has announced that the prestigious Dr J Alexander Award will be presented to His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, the head of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.
The award recognises his outstanding charitable work, including leadership of 17 charitable organisations and several humanitarian initiatives such as providing free meals to patients in hospitals. The ICM leaders said that the recognition is a tribute to his compassion and tireless service to the poor and the sick.
The award ceremony will be held on November 15 at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Kochi. Union Minister George Kuryan will present the award during the function, which will be presided over by ICM President Dr John Joseph.
His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, who serves as the Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan, has been widely admired for his efforts to promote social welfare and education within the community. Under his leadership, the church has expanded its charity work to reach people in need, regardless of their background or faith.
The Indian Christian Movement said that the Dr J Alexander Award is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to society through their faith and humanitarian service.
