NDA gains strong momentum in Bihar as BJP confirms Nitish Kumar as chief ministerial choice

Patna: The National Democratic Alliance is showing strong momentum in Bihar as vote counting continues for the 2025 assembly elections. Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party have reaffirmed that Nitish Kumar will return as chief minister if the alliance secures a majority in the 243 member assembly.

Early trends and exit polls released ahead of counting day suggested that the NDA was in a favourable position, although some surveys indicated a tight contest with the opposition Mahagathbandhan. High voter turnout in both phases of polling reflected strong public interest, with the second phase recording nearly 69 percent participation.

The BJP has repeatedly stressed that there is no ambiguity about the leadership question. Party leaders said the decision to project Nitish Kumar again aims to send a message of stability and continuity to voters. Nitish Kumar, who has already served multiple terms, is seen as a central figure in the alliance’s strategy.

The Mahagathbandhan, led by Tejashwi Yadav, has attempted to counter this by promising new leadership and fresh direction for the state. The opposition claims that Bihar needs change and that younger leadership can address issues such as unemployment and development delays.

As counting proceeds, both alliances are closely watching key constituencies that could shape the final outcome. The result will determine whether Bihar opts for continuity under the NDA or chooses the opposition’s call for change. The Election Commission is expected to release the final results by the end of the day.
