Children’s book inspired by Pope Francis encourages kids to discover their inner gifts

Rome: A new children’s book inspired by the teachings of Pope Francis is set to reach young readers early next year, inviting them to discover the special gifts they carry within. The book titled "Our Treasures Within" is being published by Loyola Press and is written and illustrated by well known author Peter H Reynolds together with his brother Paul A Reynolds.

The picture book aims to help children understand that every person has unique treasures such as kindness, creativity, courage and compassion. It encourages families to reflect on these gifts and think about how they can be shared to make the world a better place. The message closely reflects themes often repeated by Pope Francis during his ministry such as caring for others, nurturing talents and building community.

Work on the book began in 2022 and continued after April 2025 as a way of carrying forward the spirit of Pope Francis’ message to children and families. Loyola Press said the book offers a gentle and hopeful way for young readers to discover who they are and what they can contribute.

Our Treasures Within will be available in hardcover and digital formats from January 20 next year. The book is designed for children between four and nine years old and features colourful illustrations, simple language and short reflections that can be used at home, in schools or in faith formation programs.

Publishers say the story invites children everywhere to explore a simple question that Pope Francis often posed during his encounters with young people: What gift has God placed in your heart that you can share with others?

The book is now open for pre order and is expected to be used widely by parents, teachers and church groups who are looking for positive and meaningful stories for children.
