Johannesburg : South Koreas President Lee Jae Myung held separate meetings with Chinas Premier Li Qiang and Japans Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on the sidelines of the G20 summit, focusing on regional stability and stronger cooperation.
During his meeting with Premier Li, President Lee said he hoped to visit Beijing soon for talks with President Xi Jinping. He stressed that open communication is important for building trust between the two countries. Li agreed to convey Lees request to the Chinese president and noted that constructive dialogue is necessary for good relations.
Lee also met Japans Prime Minister Takaichi. Both leaders said the international situation is becoming more uncertain and agreed that it is important for South Korea and Japan to keep strengthening their partnership. Their discussion came at a time when Japan and China are facing diplomatic tension over issues including Taiwan.
In his address at the G20 summit, President Lee said South Korea is preparing to host the G20 gathering in 2028. He promised that the forum would continue to serve as a major platform for international cooperation and joint problem solving.
Lees meetings with both China and Japan show his focus on balancing relations in the region at a time of shifting global politics. South Korea aims to maintain positive ties with its neighbors while also preparing to play a bigger role on the world stage as a future G20 host.
