Perth: As Advent begins on 30 November, the Catholic Congress invites our parish community to embrace the true spirit of the season through a simple yet powerful act of love. This year, we are launching the “$1-Every-Day Advent Challenge”, a charitable program running from 30 November to 19 December to help provide a Christmas meal for the homeless at Moore Street, Perth on 25 December.
The Advent season, rich in hope and anticipation, calls Christians to ready their hearts for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is also a time for generosity, compassion, and acts of charity that bring light into a world often weighed down by struggle.
In partnership with the Missionaries of Charity, Perth, the Catholic Congress encourages every family to set aside just $1 per day during the Advent period. When shared across our community, these small daily offerings will ensure that our brothers and sisters experiencing homelessness and poverty receive a warm and dignified Christmas meal on Moore Street Hub.
How You Can Participate:
From 30 November to 19 December, contribute $1 each day as your family’s Advent offering. Drop off your weekly donations or contribute a total of $20 for charity at the Catholic Congress collection desk at St. Joseph Syro Malabar Church, Orange Grove.
For more information about the $1-Every-Day Advent Challenge and to further support this initiative, please contact Janosh Sebastian at 0451 097 277.
All contributions will directly support the Christmas Day meal service on 25 December for the homeless at Moore Street, Perth.
Supporting the Wider Mission:
Any additional contributions will be sent across to support the needs of the Madagascar Mission Community.
Below are a few details highlighting the urgent needs of the community in Madagascar:
• Many families face extreme poverty, lacking access to necessities such as food, clean water, and clothing.
• Parishes and mission centres depend heavily on external aid to continue pastoral, social, and humanitarian services for the poorest.
• Christmas season needs include food packs, simple gifts for children, and support for community gatherings that uplift the faithful.
Your generosity will help extend the love and mercy of Christ beyond our local community and into one of the most underserved mission fields in the world.
An official letter from the Parish Priest of Manakambahiny-Ouest, Madagascar, detailing the mission’s urgent needs and requesting our assistance, is also attached.
A Call to Love: One dollar, One family, One act of kindness.
Advent reminds us that Christ comes quietly to the humble and the poor, calling us to do the same. By offering one dollar a day, families can join a simple yet deeply meaningful act of charity, one that reflects the heart of our Catholic faith. Together, with the Catholic Congress leading this mission, we can share the warmth, hope, and joy of Christmas with those who need it most, both in Perth and in Madagascar.
