France’s Lucas Philippe Elected President of Interpol Amid Global Security Concerns

Marrakech: The global police organization INTERPOL today ushered in a new era as delegates at its 93rd General Assembly in Marrakech elected French senior police official Lucas Philippe as its president for the next four years. The vote, attended by representatives from 179 member nations and 34 international organizations, came after a formal nomination process finalized earlier this autumn. Philippe, currently a Controller General in the French National Police and advisor for European and international affairs, emerged as the clear choice, reflecting widespread support for his vision of a more operational and responsive INTERPOL.

Philippe’s election signals a renewed drive to sharpen INTERPOL’s capacity to tackle mounting global challenges from cybercrime and cross-border fraud to organised criminal networks and transnational trafficking. In public statements following his election, he emphasized an ambition to transform INTERPOL from a largely administrative entity into a force grounded in on-the-ground impact and swift cooperation among member states. He pledged to foster stronger collaboration among frontline law-enforcement officers worldwide, underscoring a commitment to “real action” over bureaucracy.

As the new President of INTERPOL, Philippe now heads the organization’s Executive Committee and will represent the agency on the global stage. His tenure begins at a time of acute international policy challenges, rising digital threats, and increased demand for coordinated law-enforcement responses. Expectations are high that under his leadership, INTERPOL will adapt and evolve reinforcing multilateral cooperation and modernizing its operations to meet the complex security landscape of the 21st century.
