Indias cultural spirit shines at FABC congress in Malaysia

Penang: India’s rich cultural heritage took center stage at the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences congress in Penang as a 76 member delegation from India brought a lively and colorful performance to the gathering.

Fifteen young performers from the delegation presented traditional songs and dance that reflected the theme of unity in diversity. The performance was warmly welcomed and became one of the most remembered moments of the congress.

Delegates from across Asia joined in clapping and singing along when the Indian team presented a joyful action song titled J is for Jesus O is for Others and Y is for You. Many described the moment as uplifting and a true expression of shared faith.

Bishop Simon Kim Ju Young from South Korea said the performance reminded everyone that unity in diversity is not only a slogan but a way of life. He added that the Indian presentation offered a message of hope and communion for the Church in Asia.

For many participants the Indian delegation’s cultural offering was more than entertainment. It served as a witness that faith can be expressed beautifully through local culture and traditions.

The presence of the Indian delegation the largest national group at the event also highlighted the growing role of Indian Catholics in Asian church life.

Their participation and leadership especially from youth and women received appreciation from many church leaders.

The FABC congress which continues with the theme Great pilgrimage of hope aims to strengthen collaboration among Asian Catholic communities and encourage cultural expression as part of faith.
