Pope Leo XIV Visits Carmelite Sisters in Harissa, Shares Message of Humility, Prayer, and Sacrifice

Harissa: On the first evening of his apostolic journey to Lebanon, Pope Leo XIV made a heartfelt visit to the Monastery of the Carmelite Sisters of the Theotokos in Harissa, offering words of encouragement to the contemplative community.

Following his official meeting with Lebanon’s civil authorities on Sunday, the Pope travelled to the serene hilltop monastery, where he was welcomed by the cloistered Carmelite Sisters. According to the Holy See Press Office, the Pope spent time greeting each sister individually an intimate gesture that deeply moved the community.

During the gathering, Pope Leo XIV addressed the sisters with a brief yet profound reflection centred on three pillars of their contemplative life: humility, prayer, and sacrifice. He emphasized their quiet yet powerful contribution to the Church, reminding them that their hidden life of intercession sustains countless souls around the world.

Superiors from the two Carmelite communities in Harissa then formally greeted the Holy Father, expressing gratitude for his presence and support.

The encounter lasted approximately 30 minutes and concluded with the prayer of the Our Father, recited together in an atmosphere of deep devotion. Before departing, Pope Leo XIV imparted his Apostolic Blessing on the sisters, assuring them of his prayers and closeness.

The visit marked a significant moment of spiritual connection in the Pope’s Lebanon journey, highlighting the vital role of contemplative communities in strengthening the Church’s mission.
