Thiruvananthapuram: The state is bracing for a spell of intense rain accompanied by thunderstorms, with the Central Meteorological Department forecasting unsettled weather from today through Friday. In response to the evolving conditions, a yellow alert has been issued for multiple districts.
For today, the alert covers Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram, where the weather bureau warns of isolated heavy downpours. Officials have urged residents in these regions to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to waterlogging and lightning strikes.
The Met Department further noted that in the coming hours, moderate rainfall coupled with thunderstorms and wind speeds reaching up to 40 kmph is likely in isolated pockets of Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram. Meanwhile, light showers may occur at isolated locations in Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Kozhikode.
Authorities have advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain and to stay alert to updated weather bulletins as conditions continue to change.
