Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress leadership appears poised to take decisive action against MLA Rahul Mankootathil, following a series of serious allegations raised against him. With internal discussions intensifying, senior leaders are reportedly leaning toward expelling the embattled legislator, and a formal decision is expected soon.
According to party sources, the AICC is preparing to act based on recommendations from the KPCC. The high command has sought detailed reports on the complaints filed against Rahul and has conveyed that the state unit may proceed with stringent disciplinary measures. Rahul currently remains under suspension, even as the party assesses the political repercussions of demanding resignations from sitting MLAs.
Meanwhile, the case linked to the latest complaint where a woman has accused Rahul of subjecting her to severe physical and mental abuse is likely to see key developments today. Rahul has been in custody for six consecutive days, and the Thiruvananthapuram District and Sessions Court is scheduled to hear his anticipatory bail plea.
Both the prosecution and Rahul’s legal team have requested that the bail proceedings be held in-camera, citing the sensitive nature of the allegations. The court is expected to first decide whether the hearing should remain closed to the public. Rahul continues to deny all accusations, claiming the charges against him are fabricated.
