ICYM Karnataka Region Elects New Leadership at 30th Regional Council Meeting

Bengaluru: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) Karnataka Region successfully conducted its 30th Regional Elections and Council Meeting at Subhodhana Pastoral Centre, Bengaluru, uniting 75 participants, including diocesan directors, animators, and youth leaders. The event focused on electing new office-bearers, reviewing ongoing initiatives, and planning the region’s future youth programmes.

The meeting commenced with the presence of Bishop Henry Dsouza, Chairman of the KRCBC Youth Commission, alongside Regional Youth Director Fr. Ashwin Cardoza, Lady Animator Sr. Molly, Subhodhana Director Fr. Anil, Regional President Vileena Gonsalves, and General Secretary Ashley Dsouza. The programme featured insightful presentations, including Fr. George Fernandes’ address on social media and youth engagement and Fr. Francis Assisi’s session on legal awareness for young people, equipping participants with knowledge for responsible leadership.

The regional elections, overseen by Election Officer Fr. Lour Raj, resulted in the election of Sheryl as Regional President and Jibin as General Secretary for the 2025–27 term. Outgoing office-bearers were felicitated for their dedicated service, and participants shared reflections on their experiences and contributions to the youth movement.

Following the elections, the Regional Council reviewed diocesan reports and deliberated on priorities for youth ministry across Karnataka. A special interactive session with the Karnataka Christian Development Corporation Ltd., led by Chairman Prof. Japhet, provided participants with detailed insights into government schemes, scholarships, entrepreneurship support, and development programmes available to Christian youth. Delegates actively engaged with the team, seeking guidance and practical advice on leveraging these opportunities.

The programme concluded with a formal handing-over ceremony, symbolizing the transition to the newly elected Regional Executive Committee. The gathering closed on a note of renewed commitment to leadership, collaboration, and the continued mission of ICYM Karnataka Region, inspiring youth across the state to serve with dedication and vision.
