Silchar: The North East India Regional Bishops’ Council (NEIBBC) inaugurated a dedicated Family Commission for the Barak Region of Assam, marking a significant step in enhancing pastoral care for families. The launch coincided with a two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) programme held in Silchar, attended by 45 participants from across the Barak Valley. The initiative aims to equip local leaders, foster family-focused ministry, and create a structured framework for pastoral outreach within the Diocese of Aizawl.
Though the Barak Valley falls under the Diocese of Aizawl, it possesses a unique social and cultural identity distinct from mainland Mizoram. Recognizing these particular pastoral challenges, the Diocese established the Family Commission to provide targeted support, ensuring that programs and services address the specific needs of families in the region.
The ToT sessions explored the mission and objectives of the Commission, its organizational structure, operational responsibilities, and the range of activities envisioned. The programme was led by Fr. George Jarain, Regional Secretary of the Family Commission, and Mr. Julius Nongdhar, who facilitated training modules and strategic planning discussions. Participants engaged in interactive sessions to align their vision with the broader goals of the Diocese and the Regional Bishops’ Council.
During the closing segment, participants developed a comprehensive action plan, emphasizing the creation of Parish Family Cells, leadership development initiatives, and regular Commission meetings to ensure consistent and coordinated pastoral engagement. The programme concluded with a message of encouragement and appreciation delivered by Sr. Alisha Mawlong VSDB, highlighting the commitment of all participants to nurturing family life in the Barak region.
The formation of the Barak Family Commission represents a significant step in deepening pastoral outreach, strengthening family ministries, and fostering community cohesion, reflecting the Diocese’s ongoing dedication to holistic spiritual and social support.
