Meta postpones launch of mixed reality glasses to 2027

Singapore: Meta has delayed the release of its upcoming mixed reality glasses, code named Phoenix, pushing the expected launch from the second half of 2026 to the first half of 2027. The decision was reported after internal discussions and a Business Insider report based on employee communication.

According to the report, Meta executives said the extra time would help the company finalize the product and improve key features before it is made available to the public. The Phoenix glasses are said to be lightweight and designed to include mixed reality functions, but reports suggest they may not match the advanced display quality of premium competitors such as Apple Vision Pro.

The delay comes at a time when Meta is making broader changes inside Reality Labs, the division responsible for virtual and mixed reality development. The unit has seen budget adjustments and restructuring as the company shifts more attention toward artificial intelligence and wearable smart devices.

Meta recently expanded its smart glasses lineup with updated Ray Ban models, which include voice control and display functions powered by Meta AI. The company is also expected to release another product, known internally as Malibu 2, sometime in 2026 as part of its wearable technology roadmap.

Despite the delay, Meta has said it remains committed to developing the next generation of wearable and immersive technology. Industry analysts believe the postponed launch indicates Meta is prioritizing product refinement and cost management as consumer demand and competition increase in the mixed reality sector.

More details about Phoenix are expected to be shared by Meta during future product announcements.
