Vatican City: Pope Leo XIV met thousands of faithful at the Jubilee audience on Saturday and reminded them that Advent is not only a season of waiting but a time for active hope. Speaking in the Vatican, Pope reflected on the meaning of Advent during the Jubilee Year and encouraged Christians to stay alert to the presence of God in daily life.
He explained that waiting in faith does not mean being silent or passive. Instead, he said believers are called to open their eyes and hearts to the world around them. Pope added that Advent teaches people to recognize the signs of God’s work in human history and to respond with generosity, compassion, and commitment.
Pope also spoke about the theme of the Jubilee Year, pilgrims of hope, saying that this invitation does not end with the Jubilee celebrations. He encouraged everyone to continue living with hope even after the Jubilee year closes. According to him, hope should guide choices, relationships, and actions.
Pope Leo underlined the important role of ordinary believers in building a better society. He said lay people are called to live their faith at home, at work, and in public life. He reminded them that faith does not remove people from the world but helps them engage with its challenges.
During his address, Pope shared the example of Blessed Alberto Marvelli, a young Italian layman known for his service to the poor and for helping rebuild communities after the Second World War.Pope said Marvelli’s life shows that the world becomes better when people choose what is good even if it requires sacrifice and courage.
Before ending his message, Pope Leo invited the faithful to reflect on how they can use their talents and time to bring hope to others. He encouraged simple daily actions such as kindness, listening, helping the poor, and offering forgiveness.
Pope concluded by saying that Advent prepares hearts for Christmas and reminds the world that God continues to walk with humanity. He urged everyone to stay awake, stay hopeful, and work together for a future filled with peace and faith.
