Nigeria police investigate suspected organ trafficking case after disturbing discovery

Abuja: Police in Nigeria have launched a major investigation after discovering decomposed bodies at a hotel and a private mortuary in Imo State. Authorities said the findings have raised serious concerns about a possible organ harvesting network operating in the region.

The police sealed both buildings after the raid, which was carried out based on intelligence reports. Officers said the owner of the hotel and mortuary is wanted and suspected of links to kidnapping and illegal activity. Investigators said forensic teams have already collected samples and other evidence from the scene.

Police did not release details about how many bodies were found or how long the operation may have been active. Officials said more information will be shared once examinations are complete.

The discovery has caused shock across Nigeria, especially as the country has been facing rising cases of kidnapping and violent crime. Concerns about organ trafficking have grown in recent years, and this case has added fresh pressure on authorities to act.

Human rights groups and local leaders have called for a transparent investigation and better security measures to prevent similar crimes.

For now, police say their priority is identifying the victims and locating everyone connected to the suspected network. The search for the main suspect and possible accomplices is ongoing.

Authorities have asked the public to report any information that may help the investigation.
