Last day to submit SIR forms as draft voter list set for December 23

Thiruvananthapuram: Today is the final day for voters in Kerala to submit their forms under the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls. Election officials have urged all eligible voters who have not yet completed the process to do so without delay, as the draft voter list will be published on December 23.

According to officials of the Election Commission of India, the SIR exercise is aimed at updating the electoral rolls by removing duplicate, deceased and shifted voters, while ensuring that all eligible citizens are included. In Kerala, more than 99 percent of the enumeration forms distributed to households have already been collected, indicating a high level of public participation.

However, officials said around 25 lakh voters could not be traced during the door to door verification process. These names may be kept out of the draft list unless verified through booth level agents or political party representatives. Authorities clarified that such exclusions are not final and affected voters will get sufficient opportunity to correct the records.

The draft electoral roll to be released on December 23 will clearly show the names included, excluded or marked under categories such as absent, shifted or deceased. From the day of publication, voters will be able to submit claims and objections to add missing names or correct errors. This window is expected to remain open until January 22, 2026.

Election officials have reassured the public that no eligible voter will lose their right to vote without due process. They have advised citizens to carefully check the draft list once it is published and file objections in time, if needed.

The final revised voter list is expected to be published in February 2026, after all complaints and corrections are examined. The Election Commission has described the revision as a crucial step to ensure free, fair and transparent elections with accurate electoral rolls.
