Washington: United States President Donald J. Trump has said he was very angry after being informed by Russian President Vladimir Putin of an alleged Ukrainian drone attempt targeting one of Putin’s residences, as diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine continue.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said the reported incident was not appropriate at a time when serious talks were under way to reduce tensions and move towards peace. He said he had raised concerns during his conversation with Putin and stressed that such actions, if proven true, could complicate negotiations.
Russian officials claimed that Ukraine launched multiple long range drones aimed at a residence linked to Putin, adding that all of them were intercepted before causing any damage or casualties. Moscow did not provide independent evidence to support the allegation.
Ukraine firmly rejected the claim. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the accusation as false and said it was being used to undermine ongoing peace efforts. Ukrainian authorities maintained that their country was committed to diplomatic engagement and denied carrying out any attack on Russian leadership targets.
The alleged incident came shortly after Trump held discussions with Zelenskyy on possible pathways to end the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. While both sides have indicated a willingness to explore negotiations, major differences remain, particularly on security guarantees and territorial issues.
International observers have urged caution, noting the lack of verified information about the reported drone attempt. Analysts warn that unproven claims and sharp rhetoric could derail fragile diplomatic progress at a moment when dialogue is seen as crucial.
Despite expressing anger, Trump said he remained focused on preventing further escalation and pushing all parties toward a peaceful resolution, adding that the situation would be reviewed carefully to establish the facts.
