Vatican City: More than three million people took part in papal audiences and liturgical celebrations at the Vatican in 2025, reflecting a year of strong global engagement with the Church.
According to figures released by the Prefecture of the Papal Household, a total of 3,176,620 faithful were present at events including general and jubilee audiences, special audiences, Masses, liturgical ceremonies, and the Angelus prayer in St Peter’s Square.
From January to April, activities at the Vatican were limited due to the health condition of Pope Francis. During this period, 262,820 people attended Vatican events. This included 60,500 faithful at eight general and jubilee audiences, 10,320 at special audiences, 62,000 at Masses, and around 130,000 who gathered for the Angelus prayer.
The situation changed significantly after the election of Pope Leo XIV on May 8. Since then, 2,913,800 people have been recorded at Vatican events. Of these, about 1,069,000 attended 36 general and jubilee audiences, while 148,300 participated in special audiences.
Attendance at liturgical celebrations also remained strong, with 796,500 faithful present at various rituals. Around 900,000 people gathered in St Peter’s Square for the Angelus, with December seeing the highest turnout, as nearly 250,000 people joined the Pope in prayer.
October emerged as the busiest month of the year. Nearly 200,000 faithful attended liturgical celebrations, while about 295,000 took part in general and jubilee audiences, making it the period with the highest overall participation.
The figures highlight a year marked by renewed enthusiasm and large-scale participation at the Vatican, especially following the election of the new Pope.
