Mysore Christians Observe Week of Prayer, Reaffirming Commitment to Unity and Common Witness

Mysore: Christians representing a wide spectrum of denominations in Mysore came together in a visible expression of faith and fellowship to observe the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2026. The eight-day observance offered a strong public testimony to shared belief, mutual respect, and a collective mission rooted in Christ.

Under the guidance of Bishop Francis Serrao, SJ, of the Diocese of Mysore, the faithful reflected deeply on the central theme, “There is one Body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling” (Ephesians 4:4). Complementing this was the sub-theme, “Light from Light for Light,” which called Christians to become living witnesses of Christ’s light in the world through their words and actions.

Prayer services were organized across eight consecutive days at different churches throughout the city, with each denomination taking turns to host and animate the common worship. This rotational approach highlighted both the richness of individual traditions and the shared spiritual foundation that unites all Christians.

The ecumenical journey began with the Unity Octave at CRI–Kripalaya, Bogadi, and continued at the Catholic Church, the Church of South India (CSI), the Orthodox Church, the Mar Thoma Church, the Methodist Church, and the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, before concluding at the Pentecostal Church. Each venue reflected the unique liturgical and spiritual heritage of the host community, while fostering a deep sense of communion and dialogue among participants.

Large numbers of faithful joined clergy and church leaders each day in praying for unity, peace, and understanding. The gatherings reaffirmed the belief that authentic Christian unity flows from a shared baptism and common faith, rather than from structural or institutional uniformity.

The Week of Prayer concluded as a meaningful and prayerful affirmation of ecumenical commitment in Mysore, strengthening the resolve of the churches to continue walking together as one Body and one Spirit in Christ, and to bear a united witness in society.
