Xi calls for equal multipolar world during meeting with Uruguay president

Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping called for the creation of an equal and orderly multipolar world during talks with Uruguay President Yamandu Orsi in Beijing on Tuesday.

Xi said the world should move toward a system where all countries are treated fairly and where global development is open and inclusive. He added that cooperation should be based on mutual respect and shared benefits, especially for developing nations.

The meeting took place as part of Orsi’s first state visit to China since taking office. He is leading a large delegation of government officials and business representatives and is also scheduled to visit Shanghai.

China and Uruguay discussed strengthening their comprehensive strategic partnership and expanding cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and technology. Both sides said they support multilateralism and the role of the United Nations in global affairs.

Uruguay is a major exporter of agricultural products to China, including beef, soybeans and wood pulp, while China supplies machinery and electronic goods to Uruguay. Officials from both countries said deeper economic ties would help support growth and stability.

The visit comes at a time of rising global tensions and shifting alliances. Analysts say China is using such meetings to promote its vision of a multipolar world where power is shared among major and emerging countries rather than dominated by one.

Uruguay, which currently holds leadership roles in regional and developing world groups, is seeking to balance its foreign relations and expand partnerships beyond traditional allies.

Both leaders said they would continue dialogue and cooperation to promote peace, development and fair global governance.
