Trump and Netanyahu discuss Iran talks and Gaza but reach no final decision

Washington: US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held extensive talks at the White House on Tuesday, focusing on Iran’s nuclear program and the situation in Gaza. After nearly three hours of discussions, Trump said no final decisions had been made, but described the meeting as productive.

Iran’s nuclear activities were at the center of the talks. The United States is continuing diplomatic efforts to reach an agreement with Iran to limit its nuclear program. Trump said he insisted that negotiations should move forward, stressing that Iran must not obtain nuclear weapons.

Netanyahu, however, pushed for a broader approach. According to officials familiar with the discussions, Israel wants any future agreement with Iran to also address its ballistic missile program and its support for armed groups in the region. While Trump said a good deal must ensure security and prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, there was no clear agreement on expanding the scope of the talks.

The meeting also covered the ongoing crisis in Gaza. Both leaders discussed the need for stability and reconstruction, as well as efforts to move the peace process forward. Although no major announcement was made, they reaffirmed their close cooperation on regional security.

This was one of several meetings between Trump and Netanyahu since Trump began his second term in January 2025. Their discussions reflect ongoing concerns about rising tensions in the Middle East, especially as indirect contacts between Washington and Tehran continue.

Diplomatic efforts are expected to continue in the coming weeks. Officials say further talks will determine whether progress can be made on both the Iran issue and efforts to bring calm to Gaza.
