Day of prayer announced for victims of war in Syro Malabar Church

Kochi: The Syro Malabar Church has announced that March 6 will be observed as a special day of prayer for the victims of war. The call comes at a time when violence and conflict in parts of West Asia are causing fear, loss and suffering for many families.

Major Archbishop Mar Raphael Thattil has urged all faithful to unite in prayer for peace. He said that weapons and military action only bring destruction and pain, while true peace can come only through dialogue and understanding. He invited parishes, religious communities and families to dedicate time on March 6 to pray for those who have lost their loved ones and for those living in fear due to war.

The Church has also expressed special concern for migrant workers and families from India, including many from Kerala, who are working in Gulf countries. With tensions rising in the region, many expatriates are worried about their safety and the future of their jobs. The Archbishop encouraged the faithful to remember them in prayer and to stand in solidarity with their struggles.

Church leaders around the world have also been raising their voices against violence in recent days. In countries such as Syria and other parts of the Middle East, clashes have led to civilian deaths, including women and children. Catholic organisations and bishops have appealed for calm and for humanitarian assistance to reach those in need.

The Syro Malabar Church said this day of prayer is not only a spiritual act but also a reminder that every believer has a responsibility to work for peace in daily life. Through prayer and compassion, the Church hopes to bring comfort to those who suffer and to renew hope for a world free from war.
