Mumbai: England won the toss and decided to bowl first against India in the semi final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.
England captain Harry Brook said the pitch looked good for batting but his team preferred to chase in the evening conditions. He also pointed out that dew later in the match could help the team batting second.
India went into the match with the same playing eleven that had performed well in the earlier matches of the tournament. The team is led by Suryakumar Yadav and includes players such as Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube. The bowling attack features Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy and Jasprit Bumrah.
England made one change to their side for the important game. Jamie Overton was included in the team in place of Rehan Ahmed. The England lineup includes Philip Salt, Jos Buttler, Harry Brook, Jacob Bethell, Tom Banton, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Dawson, Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid.
The semi final has attracted huge attention as both India and England have been among the strongest teams in the tournament. Fans filled the Wankhede Stadium as the two sides met in a high pressure contest.
The winner of this match will move on to the final of the T20 World Cup 2026 and face New Zealand for the title.
