India receive record prize money after winning T20 world cup

New Delhi: India’s victory in the ICC men’s T20 world cup 2026 has brought record prize money for the team, with huge rewards announced by both the International Cricket Council and the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final played on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Batting first, India scored 255 for five, while New Zealand were bowled out for 159. The victory gave India their third T20 world cup title and made them the first team to win the tournament three times.

After the win, the International Cricket Council awarded the champions three million US dollars, which is about Rs 27.5 crore. New Zealand, the runners up, received around 1.6 million US dollars.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India later announced a massive bonus of Rs 131 crore for the Indian team. The reward will be shared among the players, coaching staff, support staff and selectors who were part of the successful campaign.

When combined with the ICC prize money, the total reward for the Indian team comes to more than Rs 150 crore. This is considered one of the biggest financial rewards ever given for a cricket world cup victory.

BCCI officials said the reward is a recognition of the team’s outstanding performance throughout the tournament and their historic achievement on the global stage. The victory has further strengthened India’s position as one of the most dominant teams in international cricket.
