Putin calls Russia a reliable friend to Iran in Nowruz message amid rising tensions

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia will remain a loyal and reliable friend to Iran, as he sent a message to Iranian leaders on the occasion of Nowruz, the Persian New Year.

In his message, Putin greeted Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, wishing peace and strength to the Iranian people during a time of growing conflict in the region. He expressed confidence that Iran would overcome the current challenges and stressed that Russia would continue to support the country.

The message comes as tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel continue to escalate, with ongoing military actions and rising uncertainty across the Middle East. Russia has been critical of US and Israeli operations and has warned that the situation could lead to wider instability.

Although Moscow has strongly supported Tehran politically, there is still no clear sign of direct military involvement from Russia in the ongoing conflict. Analysts say Russia is trying to balance its strategic partnership with Iran while avoiding deeper military engagement.

Relations between Russia and Iran have grown closer in recent years, especially in areas such as defence, trade and energy. Putin’s message during Nowruz reflects this growing partnership at a time when both countries are facing increased pressure on the global stage.

As the conflict continues, Russia’s position signals that it intends to stand by Iran, even as the situation in the Middle East remains tense and uncertain.
