Pope Leo XIV announces liturgical calendar from April to July

Vatican City: Pope Leo XIV’s schedule of liturgical celebrations and pastoral visits from April to July 2026 has been released by the Office of the Master of Pontifical Liturgical Celebrations, outlining a period marked by international travel, ordinations, and major Church feasts.

Pope will begin April with his second international journey of the year, visiting Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea from April 13 to 23. This will be his first visit to Africa since becoming pontiff, although he has made several visits to the continent in the past, especially to Kenya and Tanzania.

Back in Rome, he will preside over a Mass with priestly ordinations on April 26 at St. Peter’s Basilica. Eight men from the Diocese of Rome are expected to be ordained on the fourth Sunday of Easter, also known as Good Shepherd Sunday.

In May, Pope will lead a Mass with episcopal ordinations on May 2 at the Basilica of St. John Lateran. On May 8, marking his first anniversary as Pope, he will travel to Pompeii and Naples. During this visit, he will celebrate Mass and pray at the Pontifical Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of the Holy Rosary of Pompeii.

Later in the month, on May 24, he will preside over Pentecost Sunday Mass at St Peter’s Basilica.

June will include another major apostolic journey. From June 6 to 12, Pope Leo will travel to Spain, visiting Madrid and Barcelona. In Barcelona, he is expected to inaugurate the newest and tallest tower of the Sagrada Familia. The trip will conclude in the Canary Islands.

On June 20, Pope will visit the Italian city of Pavia, where he will pray evening Vespers. The city holds special importance as it houses the relics of St. Augustine at the Basilica of San Pietro in Ciel d’Oro.

On June 29, the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Pope will celebrate Mass at St Peter’s Basilica and confer the pallium on new metropolitan archbishops.

The schedule concludes with a pastoral visit on July 4 to Lampedusa, where Pope Leo will celebrate Mass. The island is known as a key entry point for migrants traveling from Africa and the Middle East to Europe.

The calendar reflects a balance of liturgical celebrations, pastoral outreach, and international engagement during the summer months.
