Moscow accused of helping Iran with cyber support and satellite intelligence

Kyiv: Ukraine has claimed that Russia is providing Iran with satellite intelligence and cyber support that may be helping it plan attacks in the Middle East. The allegation comes from a Ukrainian intelligence assessment reported on Tuesday, raising concerns about growing cooperation between Moscow and Tehran.

According to the report, Russian satellites carried out multiple surveillance missions across several Middle Eastern countries in late March. These missions are said to have focused on military bases, airports and energy facilities, including sites linked to the United States and its allies. Ukrainian officials believe that some Iranian missile and drone strikes happened shortly after these areas were scanned, suggesting a possible link.

One example cited is the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia. Ukrainian sources say a Russian satellite captured images of the base just days before it was targeted in an attack. Another pass was reportedly made after the strike to assess the damage.

The report also points to increasing cyber cooperation between Russian and Iranian groups. These groups are believed to be sharing tools and strategies, with some communication taking place through online platforms. Targets reportedly include infrastructure and communication systems in Gulf countries.

Ukrainian officials say there may be a direct channel between Russia and Iran for sharing intelligence and coordinating activities. There are also suggestions that Russian personnel could be present in Iran to support these efforts.

This development is seen as part of a broader partnership between the two countries. In recent years, Iran has supplied drones to Russia for use in the war in Ukraine. In return, Russia is believed to be offering technical and intelligence support.

However, the claims have not been independently verified. The United States has acknowledged increased Russian satellite activity in the region but has said it has not affected its operations. Russia has also rejected similar accusations in the past, calling them false.

The situation highlights rising global tensions and the possibility of deeper links between conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. Observers warn that such cooperation could increase risks for military forces and critical infrastructure in the region.
