Vatican City: Vatican News has announced that the upcoming Apostolic Journey of Pope Leo XIV to Africa will be broadcast live through its newly introduced video widget, making it easier for Catholics around the world to follow the visit in real time.
The digital tool, launched in February, has already been added to thousands of websites globally. It allows users to access live video, news reports, and commentary related to Pope’s journey, offering verified and direct information from the Vatican.
The papal visit, scheduled from April 13 to 23, will take Pope to Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea. It will be the second Apostolic Journey abroad of Pope Leo XIV.
In a letter sent to bishops earlier this year, Pope described the widget as a valuable tool for evangelization. He said it helps build connections between Rome and local Churches while giving parishes and communities direct access to authentic information.
According to Andrea Tornielli, the service is free and easy to install. He encouraged Catholic media, dioceses, and parish websites to use the widget, especially ahead of Pope’s visit, so that more people can follow the events live in their preferred language.
The content provided through the widget will include multilingual coverage of speeches and events, focusing on key themes such as peace, the environment, migration, youth, family life, and the legacy of colonialism.
The Vatican hopes that this initiative will strengthen communication within the global Church and allow more faithful to participate virtually in Pope’s pastoral journey.
