Pope says he is not afraid of Trump and will continue to speak against war

Vatican City: Pope Leo XIV has said he is not afraid of Donald Trump and will continue to speak out against war, insisting that his message is based on the Gospel and not politics.

Speaking to journalists during his flight to Algeria, Pope responded calmly to recent criticism from the US president. Trump had publicly attacked the Pope, describing him as weak and criticising his views on global conflicts.

In response, Pope Leo said his mission is spiritual and not political. He explained that the Church has a duty to defend human life and promote peace, especially at a time when many innocent people are suffering because of war.

He stressed that his words are guided by the teachings of the Gospel, including the call to be peacemakers. Pope said he does not want to enter into personal arguments with political leaders, but he will not remain silent when people are dying.

Pope also repeated his concern about ongoing global conflicts, including tensions in the Middle East. He called for dialogue between nations and urged leaders to find peaceful solutions instead of continuing violence.

Relations between the Vatican and Washington have become strained in recent days due to differences over war and international policies. However, Pope made it clear that his appeals are not directed against any individual, but are meant to encourage peace and human dignity.

As he begins his visit to Africa, Pope Leo is expected to continue raising his voice for peace and solidarity with those affected by conflict.
