Mysuru Youth Convention 2026 Calls Young Catholics to Shine as Witnesses of Christ

Mysuru: A powerful display of faith, enthusiasm, and unity unfolded in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mysore as nearly 560 young Catholics came together for Youth Convention 2026, held from April 18 to 20. Centered on the theme “Hongirana – To Radiate Christ,” the three-day gathering became a meaningful journey of spiritual awakening, leadership development, and communal bonding.

Organized by the diocesan Commission for Youth, the convention sought to shape a well-rounded Christian identity among participants. It encouraged young people to deepen their connection with Christ while equipping them to face the complexities of modern life with faith, responsibility, and purpose.

The opening ceremony was led by Msgr. M. Anthappa, Vicar General of the diocese, who highlighted the indispensable role of youth as the living strength of the Church. He called on them to embody their beliefs with sincerity and boldness. Chief Guest Elisha Andrew, in his address, urged participants to blend faith with discipline, ethical living, and leadership in society. The presence of clergy members such as Fr. Lourdu Prasad, Fr. Arul Selva Kumar, and Fr. Maria Xavier Sunil added depth and guidance to the proceedings.

At the heart of the convention was its rich spiritual dimension, marked by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. The liturgies were led by Francis Serrao and Thomas Vazhapilly, who in their homilies encouraged the youth to remain firmly rooted in Christ and to become authentic witnesses of the Gospel in contemporary society.

A standout element of the event was its flexible workshop structure, offering participants the freedom to choose sessions aligned with their interests. Topics included vocational discernment, the relevance of catechism, responsible digital engagement, evangelization, relationships, and emotional well-being. These sessions provided practical tools to help young people balance modern challenges while staying anchored in Christian values.

The concluding session took place at St. Philomena’s College Indoor Stadium and was presided over by Bishop Vazhapilly. Chief Guest Fr. Leslie Moras inspired the youth to take up active leadership roles within their communities. Fr. Ashwin Cardoza and Joshy Basil further encouraged a life of discipline, service, and personal growth.

The convention was organized under the guidance of Fr. Maria Xavier Sunil, Director of the Commission for Youth, along with Mr. Jerome Immanuel, President of ICYM Mysore. Their coordinated efforts ensured a meaningful and impactful experience for all attendees.

Participants widely described the convention as life-changing, noting that it renewed their spiritual commitment and strengthened their resolve to live out and share the Gospel within their families, parishes, and society at large.
