Kolkata: Sister Hyacinth Varghese (Usha, 56), the former Provincial Bursar of the Kolkata-based Northern Plain Province of the Cluny Religious Congregation, has passed away. A member of the Kattakkuzhi family in Kunnumma, Kavalam, Kuttanad, Sister Hyacinth had been active for a long time in various service sectors of the congregation centered in Kolkata.
Excellent Teacher and Beloved Nun
Sister Hyacinth was a person who left a unique mark in the field of education alongside her religious life. She served as a senior teacher and later as the Principal at Cluny Convent High School in Kolkata for a long time. Colleagues and former students remembered "Sister Usha" as someone who was equally beloved by everyone, interacting with children and parents with the utmost love and care.
Family
She was the daughter of the late Kattakkuzhi Varghese and Philomina, members of the Kavalam St. Teresa's Parish.
Siblings: Elsamma, Joseph, Salimma, Jancy (Pune), Jijimol (Kayalpuram), Sajimon, and Seema. Family members and classmates expressed deep grief over the Sister's sudden demise.
Funeral
The funeral services will be held tomorrow, Thursday (23-04-2026), at 3:00 PM at St. Joseph Provincial Church in Kolkata. Relatives have left for Kolkata to attend the funeral rites.

Members of the Cluny Congregation North Plain Province, the expatriate association of Kavalam St. Teresa's Parish, classmates, and members of the home parish expressed their condolences on the passing of Sister Hyacinth. Condolence messages stated that Sister Usha's departure is a great loss to both the Church and society.
