Sacred Harmony Resonates at Rachol Seminary, Inspiring Easter Devotion

Rachol: An evening steeped in devotion and musical brilliance unfolded at the historic Rachol Seminary, where the Santa Cecilia Choir presented a spiritually enriching concert titled Dut Mhoje Zayat (“Be My Disciples”). The event, held in the joy of the Easter season, drew the faithful into a profound atmosphere of prayer through the timeless language of sacred music.

Rooted in the missionary call of Gospel of Matthew (28:19), the concert was designed as more than a musical performance it became a contemplative journey inviting the audience to encounter the Risen Christ. Adding historical depth to the occasion, the programme also marked the 500th birth anniversary of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, one of the most influential composers in the history of liturgical music, whose legacy continues to shape sacred compositions worldwide.

Led by Fr. Mathew Rebello, the ensemble brought together 45 vocalists and 27 instrumentalists in a carefully curated repertoire. The performance featured a seamless blend of Gregorian chant and classical liturgical works, elevated by the harmonious interplay of voices and instruments. The result was an immersive experience that fostered deep reflection and reverence among those present.

The chief guest, Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão, commended the choir for transforming the gathering into a sacred assembly of worshippers. Emphasizing the spiritual power of music, he noted that such expressions of faith have the ability to draw believers closer to God, describing the evening as nothing short of “a glimpse of heaven.”

Earlier, Fr. Donato Rodrigues, Rector of the seminary, welcomed the attendees and set the tone for the evening. As the final notes faded, the audience was left in a state of quiet reflection uplifted, renewed, and deeply touched by an experience that transcended performance and became prayer.
