Trump rejects Iran proposal as hopes for Middle East peace deal fade

Washington: Hopes for a breakthrough peace agreement between the United States and Iran have weakened after US President Donald Trump strongly rejected Iran’s latest proposal aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East. The development has increased fears that the conflict in the region could continue for a longer period, raising concerns about global oil supplies, economic stability and civilian safety.

Speaking to reporters, Trump described Iran’s response to the proposed peace framework as “garbage” and said the offer was completely unacceptable to Washington. His remarks came after weeks of diplomatic efforts by several countries to reduce military tensions and prevent the conflict from spreading further across the Middle East.

The proposal from Tehran reportedly included demands for an immediate end to military operations in the region, especially in Lebanon and surrounding areas affected by violence involving Israel and armed groups linked to Iran. Iran also called for the lifting of economic sanctions, compensation for war related damage and guarantees that future military attacks would not take place.

Iranian leaders argued that their proposal was aimed at creating long term peace and stability. Officials in Tehran said that any meaningful agreement must include an end to economic pressure and military threats against the country. Iran also insisted that discussions should first focus on restoring safe shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transport routes.

The Strait of Hormuz has become a major concern for global markets in recent months. The narrow waterway carries a large percentage of the world’s oil exports, and fears of disruption have already pushed oil prices higher. After Trump rejected the Iranian proposal, international oil prices rose again as investors worried about the possibility of prolonged conflict and instability in the Gulf region.

Financial markets in Asia, Europe and the United States also reacted with caution. Several stock markets recorded losses while investors shifted money into safer assets such as gold and government bonds. Economists warned that rising oil prices could increase inflation around the world by making transportation, electricity and food more expensive.

Despite the sharp reaction from Washington, Iran maintained that it remains open to diplomacy. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran was willing to continue discussions if negotiations were based on mutual respect and realistic expectations. However, he accused the United States of placing unfair conditions on the talks.

The United States continues to insist that Iran must place strict limits on its nuclear activities and reduce support for armed groups in the region. American officials also want stronger guarantees regarding missile programs and regional security.

Diplomatic activity has continued behind closed doors as countries including Turkey, Qatar and China attempt to prevent a complete collapse of peace efforts. China is expected to play an important role in future discussions as it maintains close economic and political ties with Iran while also seeking stable global energy markets.

International concern is also growing over the humanitarian impact of the conflict. Aid organizations have warned that civilians in several parts of the Middle East are facing worsening shortages of food, medicine and fuel because of ongoing instability and disruptions to trade routes.

Political pressure is increasing inside the United States as well. Many Americans are becoming worried about the long term costs of continued military tensions and their effect on the economy. Analysts believe the issue could become an important political challenge for President Trump in the months ahead.

For now, hopes for a quick diplomatic breakthrough appear uncertain, while the world continues to watch closely for signs of either renewed negotiations or further escalation in the region.
