Moscow: Russia has said it is willing to consider fresh proposals from US President Donald Trump aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, but made it clear that its military campaign will continue until it achieves what it calls its key objectives. The latest remarks from the Kremlin come as diplomatic contacts between Moscow and Washington continue despite ongoing fighting across Ukraine and continued Western military support for Kyiv.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Russia believes President Trump is serious about trying to find a political solution to the conflict. However, he added that Moscow is still waiting for the United States to present new proposals that could lead to meaningful negotiations. According to Peskov, previous ideas discussed with American officials were viewed positively by Russia but were rejected by Ukraine. He also claimed that several European governments encouraged Kyiv not to accept those proposals.
Peskov said the situation remains complicated because the United States is continuing to supply weapons and military equipment to Ukraine while at the same time trying to promote peace negotiations. He described Washington's approach as mixed, saying Russia would continue to work with the United States wherever possible while protecting its own interests.
The comments reflect the current position of the Kremlin, which has repeatedly stated that it remains open to diplomacy but will not stop military operations unless its conditions are met. Russia has maintained that any future settlement must address what it calls the root causes of the conflict, including security concerns and the status of territories under Russian control.
Although there has been no major breakthrough in peace efforts, communication between senior Russian and American officials has continued. Recent meetings between US State Secretary Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during international gatherings have kept diplomatic channels open.
