Vatican City: Pope Leo XIV has encouraged young people in Ecuador to open their hearts to God's call, follow Jesus with determination, and become joyful witnesses of faith who inspire others through lives of love, forgiveness, and peace.
In a video message sent to participants attending Ecuador's Seventh National Youth Day in the city of Ibarra, the Pope reflected on the event's theme, "Take courage; I have conquered the world," taken from the Gospel of John. His message focused on helping young people discover the joy of meeting Christ and allowing that encounter to shape the way they live.
The Pope reminded the young participants that a true encounter with Jesus brings lasting joy and gives believers the strength to share God's love and mercy with others. He said that Christ gives meaning and purpose to every life and invited the young people to respond generously to His call.
Pope Leo urged them to listen carefully to the voice of the Lord and to follow Him with confidence and determination. He encouraged them not to be afraid of embracing the path God has prepared for them, assuring them that a life rooted in faith can become a source of hope for many others.
The Holy Father also stressed that young people have an important place in the life of the Church. He told them that the Church needs their enthusiasm, courage, and joyful witness so that more people may come to know Jesus Christ. He encouraged them to allow themselves to be transformed by Christ's love and to share that joy with those around them.
Looking beyond personal faith, Pope Leo called on the young people to become builders of a more peaceful and compassionate society. He invited them to promote forgiveness, reconciliation, and peace in their families, communities, and wherever they are called to serve.
At the conclusion of his message, the Pope entrusted all the young people of Ecuador to the care of the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Our Lady of the Presentation. He prayed that Mary's example of faith, humility, and obedience would inspire them to live the Gospel every day and to dedicate their lives to God's plan, just as she did.
